How It Works

The Stoplight Methodology: 50 Indicators, One Clear Path Forward

The Poverty Stoplight uses a visual, participatory self-assessment across 50 poverty indicators organized in 6 dimensions of human life. Families themselves — not outside evaluators — assess their own reality using the recognizable traffic light system.

Each indicator receives a red (urgent need), yellow (making progress), or green (achieved) designation. This dignified, agency-centred approach allows families to identify their own priorities and build a personalized poverty-exit roadmap — transforming passive aid recipients into active architects of their own futures.

Dr. Gabriele's Role

Teaching AI as a Tool for Poverty Exit

The convergence of Stoplight's methodology and generative AI is where real transformation happens.

Dr. Gabriele was brought in to train Poverty Stoplight's community facilitators and participating families in the practical application of generative AI — not as abstract technology, but as a concrete instrument within their existing poverty-exit roadmaps.

Working within the Stoplight's self-assessment framework, Dr. Gabriele developed culturally-sensitive, multilingual AI workshops that meet families exactly where they are on their traffic-light journey. A family with a "red" indicator on income generation learns to use ChatGPT to draft business proposals and client communications. A family working toward "green" in education learns to use AI tutoring tools to support their children's learning.

The training is rooted in Dr. Gabriele's core belief: access to AI is the new economic frontier, and those navigating poverty cannot be left behind in the AI revolution.

Philosophy: AI Knowledge is a Justice Issue.

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the mastery of Artificial Intelligence has become the new literacy. Without intentional intervention, this powerful technology threatens to widen existing socioeconomic gaps rather than close them. Dr. Gabriele believes that access to AI is not a luxury — it is a fundamental right for economic mobility.

Through her work with Poverty Stoplight, Dr. Gabriele translates complex prompt engineering and AI frameworks into accessible, participatory methodologies that respect the lived experiences of families living in poverty — embedding AI literacy directly inside the Stoplight's proven 50-indicator self-assessment system.
